B*tch better have my lipstick.
Remember a few weeks ago when Rihanna dropped her music video for "Work" and we were all freaking out over her green lipstick? Well, looks like a lipstick trend is officially upon us because this summer Bite Beauty is launching their very own dark green lippie, much like the one RiRi wore while cozying up to Drake. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of this hot new shade when I took a tour of Bite's factory in Toronto this past weekend.
Appropriately dubbed "Kale," this hue is made with Bite's new highly-pigmented "Amuse Bouche" formula — and I can honestly say these are some of the boldest yet simultaneously hydrating lipsticks I've ever tried. Seriously, these are 17 - 22 precent pigmentation while the average lipstick is about 8 percent, according to Bite Beauty's Director of Education Quinn Novak. "Pigments are inherently dry, so it's really important that we incorporated 12 edible oils to become a pillow around the dry pigments," Novak explained. "So as you apply it you're still getting that creamy, moisturizing feeling."
As my friends, coworkers, and long list of ex-lovers can attest, I'm a red lipstick junkie, so I didn't really expect to have positive feels about Kale (kale smoothies, on the other hand...). But much to my surprise, one swipe of this vegetable-colored lippie and I instantly felt more BadGalRiRi and less GoodGirlLindsay.
The only drawback? Looking like The Grinch took a swig from your Starbucks cup, as my assistant editor Roxanne Adamiyatt quipped as I returned to my desk.
While I don't think Kale will ever replace Tannin (my go-to Bite red, FYI), you better believe I'll be rocking it this summer while sipping on some green juice and listening to Rihanna, of course.
Kale will be available soon at Sephora and on Sephora.com. Keep checking back for more info.
